WORKS EXHIBITED

Golnaz Payani creates art works to freeze the time that passes, leaving behind only the traces of a void. Originally a painter, the artist develops her practice around various mediums: film, video, work on fabric, installation, ceramic, poetry. Golnaz Payani recycles time, fixes it in a frame or paper, and tries to keep track of it when it inflames. If the story is over, the artist gives us back its perfume, its color, its hue or its frame. Her creations therefore function as the relics of this absence, of this inevitable dissolution of time and memory. Her work invites us to a meditative ballad intersecting different temporalities and realities but also collective and individual memories.

« I love looking at items from flea markets and rummaging through the things displayed by a sidewalk merchants. Sometimes I buy one that I find particularly inspiring. When I get home, I look at it, open it, break it down, take it apart. I try to elaborate a new order for its components, to create a new logic, a new interpretation for this same object. The latter then in full crisis of reversal, keeps the traces of the past while developing its future identity. Entre les lignes is a series of cutouts in progress, taking as a starting point reproductions drawings of flowers. If flowers are the symbol of vanity in many civilizations, in ancient Persia, they were the symbol of renewal and announced the rebirth. In this series, each flower oscillates between these two visions: the one that blooms in spring, and the one that fades in winter. It is at the same time the before and the after, the one that was and the one that becomes. »
